Answer to Question 1

Students should explain that early intervention attempts to:

Improve childrens acquisition and use of important motor, affective, social, communication, and intellectual behaviors.
Help children integrate these behaviors into generative, functional, and adaptive responses to their environment.
Provide a comprehensive set of services to children from birth to three years and their families.

Answer to Question 2

Students might make three points:

The father may have had exposure to toxins, such as Agent Orange, that alter or damage his sperm.
The father may engage in physical abuse of the pregnant mother, which can have a lasting effect on the newborn.
Children of older fathers may have a higher risk of having birth defects.
