The Deaf Community exists as
 
  a. a distinct disability group within our society.
  b. a distinct cultural group within our society.
  c. a strong community support group for children that have received cochlear implants.
  d. a distinct handicapped group within our society .

Question 2

What does it mean to be bilingual and bicultural as an individual who is deaf and why should supports take this into consideration?

ANSWER: Answers should address the fact that many individuals who are deaf are fluent in two languages: ASL and English. Many learn English as a second language learning to communicate first in ASL. There is also a distinct Deaf culture of shared values, norms, and behaviors.
