Answer to Question 1

ANSWER: True

Answer to Question 2

ANSWER: Answers should address the fact that a number of complications exist in identifying culturally and linguistically diverse students. One is that the rating scales are normed for white, middle-class students. Two, poverty may be a risk factor of ADHD-like behaviors. Three, cultural expectations may influence what is considered abnormal behavior for a child. The best approach is for Remy's evaluators to use a scale that has been found to be more accurate for minority groups and to take other elements such as his functional behaviors - how he interacts with peers or how he is performing academically for example -into account. Cognitive tests and tests of academic achievement should also be considered. Finally, Remy's evaluators should rule out any other possible explanations for his behavior and academic difficulties.
