Answer to Question 1

ANSWER: b

Answer to Question 2

ANSWER: Answers should specify that the discrepancy model uses the discrepancy between IQ and achievement/performance to determine a learning disability. This discrepancy model can cause problems by waiting until the gap between IQ and achievement/performance is wide enough to measure. This may mean that the child cannot get help until he/she has experienced substantial failure with learning. The RTI model looks at how a child responds to scientific, research-based interventions. It focuses on prereferral prevention and the intervention model. It looks for the needs of
a student in order to deliver appropriate supports and services through a collaborative approach. The child moves through an intervening hierarchy until he/she is provided with the support that is needed.
