Answer to Question 1

ANSWER: Answers will vary, of course, depending on what the student's experience happened to be. The key to evaluating the answer is to assess whether the rationale for the selection of the philosophy or theory is sound.

Answer to Question 2

ANSWER: Assimilationist education is characterized in Chapter 5 as the attempts of the misguided reformers to civilize Native Americans (and other ethnic minority groups) and to assimilate them into white (Anglo-Saxon) society by instilling in them white values. This condition is progressive and worsens with time. More than 100 million people in the United States are nearsighted, but only 20% of those are born with the condition.
