The tort of the intentional infliction of emotional distress consists of the following four elements: 1) the defendant must have acted intentionally or with reckless disregard of the consequences; 2) the defendant's conduct must have been extreme or outrageous; 3) the plaintiff must have suffered severe emotional distress; and 4) the defendant's conduct must have been the cause of such emotional distress.
