As stated in your textbook, initial client interviews are customarily conducted by the attorney with or without the paralegal present. However, when the paralegal is present, his or her usual role is that of note-taker and preparer of an intake memorandum after the interview summarizing the information that was gotten, agreements reached and any follow-up that may be needed. If the paralegal is allowed to hold the initial interview solo, provide a list of the general information the paralegal should obtain from the client being mindful of the UPL.
