The idea behind self help is to permit the correction of a violation of property rights without resorting to the intervention of a court. Permissible self help may not result in damage to another's property. For example, a property owner may trim encroaching limbs or branches at his own expense so long as in doing so he creates no damage to the adjoining property with the encroaching tree.
