Based on their investigation, the discharge of chemicals from the Greenway plant took place multiple times, in varying levels of intensity, over a 15 year period. The discharge varied over that time depending on changes in technology used at the plant, variations in rainfall, or variations in the level of production by the company. Alterations in the municipal water and sewer systems at different times may also have been a factor. It was getting difficult for the trial team to visualize all of this chronological information. Answer to Question 1

The team can use software such as TimeMap to build a timeline. By simply adding dates and events to the New Fact boxes, they can begin to create the timeline. As they key in dates and facts, the time line builds automatically. TimeMap creates the base timeline, and adjusts the time scale automatically. This timeline can be used when the team convenes to discuss strategy. It can also be used during settlement discussions, and later can be adapted for use at trial.
