Answer to Question 1

An application is a type of software used to perform a specific function, or a set of related functions, such as word processing, presentations, and electronic spreadsheets. These are programs that are often used across many different professions and industries. Office suites are sets of commonly used office applications that are designed to work together. A specialty application is software that is industry-specific. These applications are created to perform functions that are unique to an industry, such as case management in the law office. Legal specialty software falls generally into the following categories: (1) office management; (2) case management; (3) litigation support; (4) document management; and (5) trial presentation.
