An office in which all of the computers are networked is like a small version of the Internet. Each person's computer is connected to other computers, usually with a central or main computer on which reside the frequently shared data files, and the network operating system software that controls the connections and how the requests from each computer are handled and directed. In the local area network (LAN), this main control computer is usually referred to as the file server. The ability of everyone in the law office to access and work on the same files without being in the same location or having to print the document makes the legal team more efficient.
