Sales tax is a tax imposed on the sale of goods and services, usually measured as a percentage of their price. Use tax is a tax imposed on the use of certain goods that are bought outside the taxing authority's jurisdiction. Use tax is designed to discourage the purchase of products that are not subject to the sales tax.
