There are two types of public figures: 1) general purposes public figures, and 2) limited-purpose public figures. General-purpose public figures are people who achieve such pervasive fame or notoriety that they become public figures for all purposes and in all contexts. Limited-purpose public figures are people who thrust themselves to the forefront of particular public controversies in order to influence the resolution of the issues involved.
