Answer to Question 1

REIT is the acronym for Real Estate Investment Trust. It is a company that buys, develops, manages, and sells real estate assets. The REIT sells shares or interests in its business to individual who otherwise would lack the funds to invest in real estate. In this way the REIT is similar to a stock mutual fund. There are three basic forms of REIT: 1) Equity REIT invests in and owns properties and derives income from the properties' rents; 2) Mortgage REIT deals in investments and ownership of property mortgages; and 3) Hybrid REIT dabbles in both the equity and the mortgage side of the business.
