Many distinctive musical styles have emerged from the Inland South. Jazz, blues, and rock and roll are particularly associated with African American musicians. Scots-Irish people brought with them traditional folk music that developed into what is now called country music.

Many immigrants from other parts of North America have been attracted to the growing employment opportunities in the region.
