Answer to Question 1

English, Welsh, and German immigrants settled Pennsylvania. English Quakers in particular were attracted to the region. William Penn, who founded the colony, sought to attract settlers from different parts of Europe. In contrast, many other colonies were founded by religious minorities who sought to separate themselves from other groups.

Answer to Question 2

The French geographer Jean Gottmann coined the term Megalopolis.
Geographers have used the term to understand city growth as the cities of Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, and Baltimore have grown to the point where they, in effect, have become one large city.
