Answer to Question 1

The Atlantic Periphery is still very much dependent economically on its marine resources, and the region is a prime habitat for many regions of fish. However, decades of overfishing have put many commercially important species on the edge of becoming extinct. If there is to be sustainable fishing of these species in the future, they must be allowed to recover.

Answer to Question 2

Outport communities were sustained primarily by fishing, and because transportation between outport communities was primarily by boat, they were isolated in the winter months and during storms.
Services such as education and health care became too uneconomical and inefficient to bring to these communities.
