Responses may point out that spillover migrants to the area can contribute to significant economic growth; however, large numbers of migrants in comparison to low numbers of natives can degrade the local culture and identities of the region.

Answer to Question 2

Students can speculate that the location was on the coast, was close to Labrador, had good fishing, and was a relatively good location for further explorations to the west and south.
