Answer to Question 1

The Silk Road was a series of land and sea trade routes whose name has its origin in the
trade for Chinese silk. It covered 7000 miles and included trade between China, Greece,
Rome, Arabia, Persia, India, Turkey, Korea, Japan, and Ethiopia. Its initial purpose was
in the trade of goods like silk but that lead to trading everything, especially foods, but
eventually that lead to a sharing of culture, ideas, arts, sciences, and innovations forming
a foundation and expansion for many diverse cultures.
The Silk Road had great importance for Persia-Iran due to their location upon that route
and the level of importance of the products they traded. Genghis Khan, the Mongol
leader, was the first to bring the Silk Road under one rule. This occurred between 1220
and 1501 . Due to that dominance the Silk Road grew in its importance as a
communications route. It also increased trade and expanded culture to all along the
route. Again, the Persian culture was at the center of that.
