Answer to Question 1

Feedback is not only a useful method of providing information to the team member on
performance, but also an excellent method of giving reinforcement and positive strokes. The
purpose of giving feedback is to reinforce the team member's commitment and abilities. It
should be given when requested by a team member. Feedback should be given on two positive
levels, with performance described as either needs improvement or as doing well. A chef
supervisor who believes that most team members want to do a good job and, in most instances,
will do a good job instills excellent morale within the kitchen. The achievement and success of
the team are the results of each employee at all levels of the team.

Answer to Question 2

When a climate of cooperation and communication is established through organized, sensible
stimuli, individuals become team-participative. This is a challenge for the chef supervisor and
the kitchen team, but the potential rewards for the foodservice establishment are great.
