Most organizations require application forms to be completed because they can provide a fairly
quick and systematic means of obtaining a variety of information about the potential team
member. As with interviews, the EEOC and the courts have found that many questions asked on
application forms disproportionately reject females and minorities and often are not job-related.
To keep in line with this legal requirement, application forms should be developed with great
care and revised as necessary. The information on the application form is generally used as a
basis for further exploration of the applicant's background. It should be designed to provide as
much information as possible that is predictive of job success. Even though potential team
members come armed with elaborate and impressively designed resumes, it is still important that
application forms are completed early in the application process.
