Answer to Question 1

Even without shareholders, the company has a variety of external publics
important to its success. How the company is depicted in the media could have a
major impact upon potential consumers and distributors of its products. Positive
national publicity is also important to the company's employees, helping to
engender pride and loyalty toward the company.

Answer to Question 2

It probably happened one of two ways. Because of the volume of mail that
corporate executives receive, it is possible the letter was sent by an administrative
assistant to the public relations office for a response. However, it is also possible
that a savvy executive called the matter to the team's attention. Whatever
happened, one thing is certain: The company recognized an opportunity and
successfully seized it.
