Answer to Question 1

FALSE

Answer to Question 2

A significant aspect of the educational experience is that children spend their school hours with their peers, and most of their activities after school take place with school friends.
Young people rely increasingly on school friends and become less interested in adult role models. The norms of the peer culture are often at odds with those of adult society, and a pseudoculture with a distinct social system develops.
Law-abiding behavior may not be among the values promoted in such an atmosphere. Young people enmeshed in this youth culture may admire bravery, defiance, and having fun much more than adults do.
The school has become a primary determinant of economic and social status. In this technological age, education is the key to a job that will mark its holder as successful..
Parents can no longer ensure the status of their children through social class alone. Educational achievement has become of equal, if not greater, importance as a determinant of economic success.
This emphasis on the value of education is fostered by parents, the media, and the schools themselves. Regardless of their social or economic background, most children grow up believing education is the key to success.
Many youths do not meet acceptable standards of school achievement. Whether failure is measured by test scores, not being promoted, or dropping out, the incidence of school failure continues to be a major problem for U.S. society.
