Answer to Question 1

Answer: pessimistic

Answer to Question 2

Answer: One of the characteristics of depression is hopelessness. A logical hypothesis is that the hopelessness is a partial cause of the depression. From the perspective of this theory, according to Abramson and Seligman, one comes to feel helpless in the face of negative events and comes to believe that there is no way to control these events. A person comes to believe that they will be helpless in the future, also, which leads to giving up hope, as well as apathy and sadness. With these symptoms, a person is very likely to be diagnosed as depressed. Hopelessness depression, like other kinds of depression, alters a persons basic motivation. They become passive, feel sad, and have lowered self-esteem.
