Answer to Question 1

Answer: c: epigenetics.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Research and personality theory have suggested that in a number of situations most people understand that the image they present to others has consequences and they go to some length to manage and manipulate that image in a process termed self-presentation. Generally the situation or the expected audience is a factor in how this image management occurs. The regulation of public self-presentation is termed impression management in the textbook. Theory suggests a dichotomy between authentic self-presentation and strategic self-presentation. Research suggests that in some situations, such as on-line dating, the tendency is toward strategic self-presentation and that women tend to portray themselves as lighter and men portray themselves as heavier. The textbook suggests up to 12 kinds of self-presentation tactics but focuses on the classic quintet of ingratiation, intimidation, self-promotion, exemplification, and supplication. A good answer would not need to mention all five; two examples would be sufficient.
