Answer to Question 1

Answer: Gallup had a group of chimpanzees that had been given time to explore mirrors and to see themselves in mirrors. He then put them to sleep while he applied a red dot to each of their foreheads with a colorant that was odorless and that they could not feel. After they awoke, the chimpanzees spent significantly more time touching themselves on their eyebrows and ears. This is evidence that they perceived the images in the mirror to be themselves and recognized that they would not normally have a red dot on their foreheads.

Answer to Question 2
