Sheldon and Eleanor Glueck began studying the integration of biological, psychological, and social factors. Robert Sampson and John Laub later used the Gluecks' data to further examine these relationships using more advanced statistical methods. This research led to the development of Sampson and Laub's age-graded theory of informal social control. The Philadelphia cohort research by Marvin Wolfgang and his associates also investigated criminal career development. Rolf Loeber and Marc LeBlanc proposed that criminologists should devote time and effort to understanding basic questions about the evolution of criminal careers.
