Answer to Question 1

Inmates have different responses to being on death row. Some inmates continue to claim their innocence, while others focus on legal appeals and court work. Some inmates have a religious experience and adopt a new religious identity. Others become depressed and struggle with adjusting to life on death row.

Answer to Question 2

Most officers working on death row seem positive about their jobs, and most inmates on death row feel they are being treated with respect by the officers. Because of the amount of time that offenders spend on death row, some officers build rapport with the inmates and do feel a sense of loss when the inmates are put to death. The officers do not feel that they are responsible for their deaths, but still feel a sense of loss.
