Offenders lose the right to work in a variety of vocations. There are many jobs such as nursing, barbering, real estate, cashiering, and working in liquor stores that will not hire ex-offenders because of the risk they pose to customers. Fourteen states prohibit convicted felons the right to vote, and most other states restrict voting until the offenders fulfill their sentences. Their criminal records can also affect their parental rights, serving on a jury, holding public office, and owning firearms.
