Answer to Question 1

Answer:
1. A trend toward loosely-organized, self-financed international terrorist networks
2. A trend toward terrorism that is religiously or ideologically motivated, and groups using religion as a pretext.
3. The growth of cross-national links and among different terrorist organizations.

Answer to Question 2

Answer:

  • Nationalist terrorists seek to change the entire political, social, and economic system to an extreme right, or ultraconservative, model.

  • Religious terrorists use violence to bring about social and cultural changes that are in keeping with their religious views.

  • State-sponsored terrorists are deliberately employed by radical nations as foreign policy tools.

  • Left-wing terrorists seek to replace economies based on free enterprise with socialist or communist economic systems.

  • Right-wing terrorists are motivated by fascist ideals and work toward the dissolution of democratic governments.

  • Anarchist terrorists are revolutionary, anticapitalist, and antiauthoritarian. While these groups are often motivated by domestic politics, they also are usually part of wider international campaigns and may fight against free trade agreements, what they see as ecologically damaging practices, etc.
