Answer to Question 1

Answer: Social development perspectives show an appreciation for, and look at all aspects of, human development to understand criminality, including psychological, biological, familial, interpersonal, cultural, societal, and ecological factors. Theorists study these factors because they believe development begins at birth yet they recognize that not all problem children become criminal adults. Other aspects determine criminal behavior in all stages of maturation, and social development theories look for patterns to predict criminal behavior throughout a lifetime.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Answers should focus on some of the unique ideas contributed by labeling theory, such as the view that deviance is not a quality inherent in an individual or behavior but comes from the imposition of social definitions.
