Answer to Question 1

Answer: Current sentencing approaches are age blind, and offenders who may have been allowed to remain in the community because of their advanced age are now sent to prison if their crime severity warrants it. The large proportion of older offenders in prison have different treatment, medical, and reentry needs than younger inmates, causing new problems for correctional administrators.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Answer (should include points such as):
Drug use, poverty, and lack of positive opportunities are linked to criminal activity. In addition, males, younger adults and minorities are more likely to be convicted of crimes.
