Answer to Question 1

Answer: Answer should include: Probation officers have a difficult time providing proper treatment and services to all of their clients due to a large caseload. This results in more of a disciplinarian and supervisory role rather than social service provider (the original intention of a probation officer).

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Answer should include: Net widening involves additional supervision and criminal sanctions for more offenders, rather than diversionary techniques. This is not only expensive in regard to the cost for the criminal justice system, but also stigmatizing for the offender.
