Answer to Question 1

Answer: In most robbery cases there is little physical evidence left at the scene, and yet the witness actually observed the robber. As previously discussed there are many complications with eye witnesses, and this might be particularly true in robberies because of the stress the witness/victim faces during a crime, but none-the-less eyewitnesses of robberies are critical. It is important that officers attempt to gather as much information as possible from any witnesses. It is vital that witnesses be separated so that their individual perceptions of what happened won't influence other witnesses. Experience has shown that an exchange of dialogue between witnesses might unconsciously alter the way in which some witnesses recall an event. The details regarding perpetrators should be as specific as possible. Information should be sought regarding specifics, such as scars, tattoos, jewelry worn, and other particulars about the suspects. Leading questions asked by the investigator might help draw out these details. Such questions encourage witnesses to stop and think about specific details regarding a crime.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Answers will vary, but a clear, descriptive broadcast should be written.
