Answer to Question 1

A

Answer to Question 2

The organized offender takes great care in the planning of his or her offense, ensuring that little or no evidence remains at the crime scene. As a result, the weapon of choice will usually be brought to the scene by the offender and taken away following the completion of the act. The victim is likely to be targeted by the offender, eliminating the connection between victim and offender that increases the likelihood of getting caught. Victims tend to be selected opportunistically, and as such may include prostitutes, hitchhikers, and others with deviant or risky lifestyles. This leads to a minimal risk of the killer being caught.
In contrast, disorganized offenders often engage in a chaotic, unplanned style of attack in which substantial amounts of evidence are left behind at the crime scene. Although the victims also are likely to be strangers, they are less likely to be selected based on a likelihood of being caught. In fact, with disorganized offenders the victims tend to be distant acquaintances, such as residents in the same building. Unlike the organized offender, who is more likely to have traveled great distances to the scene, the spontaneous nature of a disorganized killer's act makes him or her more likely to either live or work within their original zone of comfort.
