Answer to Question 1

FALSE

Answer to Question 2

The answer may contain some of the following information:
A plea bargain is a deal made between the prosecutor and the defense attorney.
The defense attorney, after consultation with his or her client, agrees that the client will admit to committing a lesser offense if the prosecutor will drop the more serious charges.
The client receives a lighter sentence, and the necessity of having an adjudicatory hearing is avoided.
The caseload of the court is thereby reduced.
Plea bargaining also involves dropping the number of charges a youth faces.
Critics of plea bargaining are concerned with its fairness.
Their fear is that juveniles who are innocent of any wrongdoing may plead guilty to a lesser offense for fear that they will receive a harsh sentence if tried and found guilty of the more serious offense.
Truly violent and dangerous youths may be able to negotiate a release back into the community when they should in all probability be placed in secure institutions.
