Answer to Question 1

The greatest strength is when the fibers are under a tensional load along the fiber orientation. Because of the discrete fibers compression loading causes premature failure due to buckling of the individual fibers.

Answer to Question 2

Flourinated Ethylene Propylene has a pendent group whereas PTFE does not, because of this some of the stability as compared to PTFE is lost as the polymer chain is more susceptible to corrosion. One advantage to this is that FEP is more easily adhered to other surfaces than PTFE. PTFE has a greater chemical stability, lower solvent sensitivity, lower maximum use temperature. FEP is tougher, higher dielectric strength.
