Why do type C sprockets have hubs on both sides?

Answer to Question 1

This type of sprocket is used with larger sprockets to increase the contact area with the shaft.

Answer to Question 2

Type B sprockets have a hub on one side only. The flat side should be mounted close to the bearings on the machine where it's mounted.
