Answer to Question 1

A worm gear drive is said to be self-locking when motion cannot be started by applying torque to the output shaft (worm gear). This is an important feature in applications where the load may try to reverse the drive when the motor is turned off.

Answer to Question 2

It can be described as the vibratory motion caused by the rise and fall of the chain as it goes over a small sprocket.
