Answer to Question 1

There are two ways to open a component for editing: right-click on it and choose Edit Component, or activate Select and double-click the component. When finished, right-click in blank space and choose Close Component, or activate Select and click once anywhere in blank space.

You can use a selection window that surrounds all objects in the model, or simply press Ctrl + A (PC) or Cmd + A
