Answer to Question 1

Answer: Inflammation is increasingly believed to cause a long list of diseases, including heart disease, arthritis, and asthma. In heart disease, the elevated blood pressure caused by hostility damages and inflames the arteries, making it easier for fat and cholesterol deposits to collect at these injured places and block the arteries. When an artery becomes completely or mostly blocked and blood can no longer pass, a heart attack occurs.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: In one study, students wrote either about a traumatic event or about an innocuous topic. Those who journaled about their trauma were less likely to get sick. And it was not just all in their headsthey produced more white blood cells, meaning their disease-fighting immune system was functioning better and they were less likely to get sick with a cold or the flu. Even people who threw away what they wrote experienced health benefits. And it does not have to take much time; even writing for 2 minutes can result in better health, though the benefits appear to be stronger if the writing is done over a period of weeks or months.
