Answer: People high in neuroticism, low in extraversion, and low in conscientiousness are the most likely to suffer from depression. The correlation is especially strong for neuroticism, as anxiety and depression are closely linked. In brief, anxiety is the anticipation of negative events, and depression is what settles in after the negative events occur (or are perceived to occur). Extraversion is linked with positive emotions and happiness, so it tends to protect against depression.

Men are more than twice as likely to have any personality disorder as women and five times as likely to have a personality disorder in Cluster Aparanoid, schizoid, or schizotypal.
