Answer to Question 1

Answer: Self-control can be increased. First, take care of yourself by getting enough sleep, eating right, and not drinking too much alcohol, because your self-control suffers when you do not do these things. That is why so many arguments occur when people are tired, hungry, or drunk. Second, you can increase your self-control by practicing mindfulness meditation, as higher mindfulness predicts better functioning in relationships. Either approach will save you a good deal of relationship drama and conflict.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Accommodation is acting in a constructive way rather than a destructive way in response to a partner's behavior. Accommodation is incredibly important for making relationships work. No matter how much you love someone, if you cannot stop yourself from saying destructive things, your relationship will suffer. And personality, especially self-control, plays a major role in accommodation. It takes self-control to stop yourself from saying mean things and instead say, I can always get a new car, but I could never find anyone else like you. People high in self-control are more accommodating and are less likely to engage in negative relationship behaviors, ranging from infidelity to physical abuse. The higher your self-control, the better your relationships are likely to be.
