Answer to Question 1

Answer: Although many people believe that only children are selfish and poorly adjusted, research does not back this up. A meta-analysis found no differences between only children and those with siblings on leadership, maturity, cooperativeness, autonomy, self-control, anxiety, popularity with peers, or extraversion.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: There is evidence that personality predicts experiences. For example, highly neurotic people were more likely to have sexual problems or quit a job. Extraverted people were more likely to experience positive events such as starting a new relationship or traveling to another country. Highly conscientious people were more likely to have won an academic award, gotten promoted at work, or successfully quit smoking.
