Answer to Question 1

Answer: Self-determination theory consists of three needsautonomy, competence, and relatedness. The three needs overlap with Murray's three primary motives: power (autonomy), achievement (competence), and affiliation (relatedness). The two systems were developed at different times using different methods, but seem to identify the same basic needs or motives.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Implicit motives are unconscious and differ from explicit motives, which are by definition people's awareness of their motives. Sometimes people's implicit and explicit motives vary and sometimes they are consist. People who have similar implicit and explicit motives are higher in self-determinationthey know what they want. Implicit motives are more likely to predict performance influenced by both conscious and unconscious factors and explicit motives predict choices and judgments.
