ANS: C
Density can be affected by temperature, salinity, and pressure. For example, water's density increases
as temperature decreases. This is a normal occurrence, but water takes on a unique behavior. At
approximately 4 Celsius, water's density begins to decrease again. Slight changes in the density of
water can lead to layering of water masses in the ocean. Information can be found in the section Water

The thermocline is the zone in which temperature decreases rapidly. This is a major factor in changing
