ANS: A
Satellites use radar pulses every second to determine the elevation of surface water. The distance of the
ocean surface is measured. The variations in elevation correspond with the depth in the ocean. This
method is quite accurate. Information can be found in the section Ocean Floor Is Mapped by
Bathymetry

ANS: A
There can be as much as 1000 kilometers of sediment layers on abyssal plains. Most of this sediment is
terrestrial in origins. Information can be found in the section The Topography of Deep-Ocean Basins
Differs from That of the Continental Margins.
