Answer to Question 1

ANS: T
The atmosphere at the equator would support cyclone development, but there is not enough
momentum from the Coriolis effect to initiate the spinning motion. Information can be found in the
section Storms Are Variations in Large-Scale Atmospheric Circulation.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: C
Air masses are already characterized as large bodies of air with uniform temperature, humidity, and
density. When air masses pause over land they acquire the characteristics of land. For example, cold,
dry land eventually makes the air mass above it cool and dry. Information can be found in the section
Storms Are Variations in Large-Scale Atmospheric Circulation.

Although the Roman numeral for the number 4 has always been taught to have been "IV," according to historians, the ancient Romans probably used "IIII" most of the time. This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
