Describe the three different types of breakers and indicate the shoreline slope that produces each type. How is the energy of the wave distributed differently within the surf zone by the three types of breakers?

Answer to Question 1

Spilling breakers, result from a gradual beach slope and gradually extract energy from the wave. Plunging breakers result from a steep beach slope. Surging breakers result from an abrupt beach slope and abruptly extract energy from the wave.
