Answer to Question 1

In both photosynthesis and chemosynthesis, energy is captured to build simple carbohydrates and other organic molecules. In photosynthesis, water and carbon dioxide are combined using energy captured from sunlight to produce carbohydrates and oxygen. In chemosynthesis, however, energy from broken chemical bonds can be used to, for example, combine carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide to produce carbohydrates and sulfate.

Only one in 10 cancer deaths is caused by the primary tumor. The vast majority of cancer mortality is caused by cells breaking away from the main tumor and metastasizing to other parts of the body, such as the brain, bones, or liver.

There are major differences in the metabolism of morphine and the illegal drug heroin. Morphine mostly produces its CNS effects through m-receptors, and at k- and d-receptors. Heroin has a slight affinity for opiate receptors. Most of its actions are due to metabolism to active metabolites (6-acetylmorphine, morphine, and morphine-6-glucuronide).
